Camping Grounds

Selecting a campground is like choosing a neighborhood. Just as everyone has a different vision of the perfect neighborhood, so it goes for campgrounds. Luckily there is a variety of campground types to choose from. The luxury campground comes with many of the comforts of home, but still provides the opportunity to live outdoors. Facilities such as showers, swimming pools, laundry facilities, and a mini-mart with ice cream and soda are often available. The basic camp is equipped with a picnic table, cooking grills, bathrooms, garbage dumpers, and tap water. The primitive campsites offers only the very minimum; a place to pitch your tent. In arid place you may have to bring your own water supply. What these campgrounds lack in luxury, they often make up in scenery and tranquility. A little pre-trip research can save you from disappointment with your new camp neighborhood. (Note: Reservations—During summer and holiday periods, campgrounds become very busy. So plan ahead and contact DENR Protected Area Office for reservations, which are a big help indeed.)
