Thanksgiving Day '09 (U.S.A.)

More than 150 years after the Pilgrims celebrated the first Thanksgiving with Native Americans, someone suggested to President Washington that the event be turned into a national holiday. George Washington thought it was a good idea and declared that in the new United States there should be a Thanksgiving holiday in the month of November. But it wasn’t until 1863, at the height of the American Civil War, that President Lincoln made Thanksgiving a official national holiday to be celebrated the last Thursday o November. In 1939 President Franklin D. Roosevelt moved it forward one week so as to allow for more shopping days before Christmas. It took Congress, in 1941, to make the fourth Thursday of November Thanksgiving officially. Happy Thanksgiving..!
