Hiking/Camping Gear Checklist


Summer is fast approaching and camping season begins. Here is some basic checklist on camping gear.

Equipment:
- Tent; Ground cloth/sheet
- Sleeping bag; Sleeping pad
- Food; Water bottles/containers
- Stove and fuel; Pots, dishes and utensils
- Camp chair
- Liquid biodegradable soap and pot scrubber
- Garbage bags; Resealable plastic bags
- Extra nylon stuff sacks
- Water filter-purifier-treatment tablets
- Lantern/lamp
- Binoculars
- Digital cameras; Extra batteries
- Notebook and pen/pencils
- GPS receiver; Watch/alarm clock; Weather radio
- Lip balm; Insects repellent and sunscreen
- Gear repair/sewing kit
- Toilet paper; Towel
- Toothbrush and toothpaste
- Brush/comb
- First aid kit-medicine
- Field guides; Permits-money-ID
- Map and itinerary of trip including name and phone number of nearest ranger (DENR) station.

Clothing – select items to fit the season, destination and weather.
- Waterproof jackets and pants
- Long sleeve wicking or fleece shirt
- Quick drying pants/shorts
- Short sleeve shirt
- Quick drying swimsuit
- Sun hat; Bandana
- Fleece or wool beanie
- Gloves/mittens; Wool or synthetic fiber socks
- Shoes/sandals

Essentials – always with you in camp or on trail.
- Day pack
- Hiking boots/shoes
- Map/compass
- Flashlight with extra batteries
- Trail foods – drinking water
- Light rain jacket
- Pocket knife or multi-tool
- Matches/lighters
