Sunset at Manila Bay

The island of Luzon, in the Philippines, has one unique feature—the most glorious sunsets to be seen anywhere in the world. They are, moreover, an almost nightly event.
On clear evenings the sun would drop behind the silhouettes of Corregidor Island and the Bataan Peninsula in a splash of color, its departure mirrored in a blinding trail of light over the waters of the bay. Again, the action might all be in the sky, with feathery white-trimmed layers of cloud superimposed over bands of crimson, yellow, and violet. Then out of the horizon, shafts of light, like flaming swords, would catch fire, an inferno in every direction.
