Singapore NDP 2010

Yesterday we’ve attended the National Day Parade (NDP2010) in celebration of Singapore’s 45th Independence Day. Every year the celebration of Singapore Independence Day has an impressive show featuring fireworks, military parades, and colourful displays from the various cultural groups. One of our main reasons to attend this celebration was to see the F15 fighter jet flight exhibition and the military parade, but due to overcrowded spectators (Singaporean and tourist alike) we were unable to see a nice view spot for the exhibition and the parade. But at least we saw some of them.

The most awaited finale of the celebration, the fireworks displayed at Marina Bay.

National Day brief background: Singapore officially gained sovereignty on 9 August 1965. Yusof bin Ishak was sworn in as President, and Lee Kuan Yew became the first prime minister of the Republic of Singapore.

In 1990, Goh Chok Tong succeeded Lee as Prime Minister. During his tenure, the country faced the 1997 Asian Financial Crisis, the 2003 SARS outbreak, and terrorist threats posed by Jemaah Islamiyah. In 2004, Lee Hsien Loong, eldest son of Lee Kuan Yew, became the third prime minister.  Among his more notable decisions is the plan to open casinos to attract tourism.

Even at the end of celebration we waited few long minutes to cross this closed road, due to crowded spectators (good thing we were in Singapore walang tulakan at sigawan na nangyari hehehe).

Sorry i can't upload the videos, I'll try next time. Sayang!
