Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral and the Cathedral Museum

A jeepney ride took us to the Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral. It is the ecclesiastical seat of the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Cebu. This church located near Sto. NiƱo Church and Plaza Sugbo (Cebu City).

At night the Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral looks exquisite outside. The surrounding area looks like a park with the kind of brightness.

“The construction of the church took long due to lack of funds and some unexpected events like the death of the incumbent bishop who spearheaded the construction and some vacancies in the office. Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral architecture is distinctive with baroque colonial churches in the Philippines. It has squat, cruciform, and with thick walls to withstand typhoon and other natural catastrophes. The trefoil-shaped pediment is decorated with carved relieves of floral motifs, an IHS inscription and a pair of griffins.”

On the right side, beside the Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral at Manalili Street was a house designed as bahay na bato that was built in 19th Century was the Cathedral Museum of Cebu. It was currently renovated.
