Step In at Liliw’s Tsinelas Festivals – Laguna

“People are just as happy as they make up their minds to be.” –Abraham Lincoln

Rain started to fall every afternoon these days but it doesn’t stop us not to visit the 11th Tsinelas Festival at Liliw, Laguna. This year the 11th Gat Tayaw (in honor of town’s founder) Tsinelas Festival was on April 30 – May 6, 2012 showcasing the different kind of tsinelas (slippers) locally handcrafted and made, with some displays of huge replica of tsinelas and sandals.

Liliw is a small town in the province of Laguna located at the foot of Mt. Banahaw, Philippines, just 3 hours from Manila whether you pass by the town of Calauan, Santa Cruz or San Pablo City. Named as the Tsinelas Capital of Laguna, being the source of quality footwear (for almost 50 years) mostly tsinelas.
Never wonder that tsinelas never goes out of style whatever the season. Tsinelas  (slippers) originated it words from Spanish called chinela, a light footwear protection that can easily slipped onto foot with just a simple flexible sole and a strap.
During the festival week some stores gives discounts, so visiting Liliw during the festivals wouldn’t complete without buying some tsinelas and souvenirs hehehe.
Go na to Liliw today for the last day of the festivals. There is also tsinelas festival held on Gapan, Nueva Ecija, every August.
